Although not a native British species – they originated in Asia – the Ring-Necked Pheasant has been so widely introduced throughout the UK and Europe that they are also known as the Common Pheasant. One of our best-loved and familiar game birds, they have a charming and inquisitive nature.
As an artist, the challenge is to understand and replicate the enormous range of colours in that beautiful plumage, especially in the areas that have a shimmering, almost metallic quality.
